Each one reach one

I ran into an old friend that I grew up with some months back, while shopping in Tarzhay. I’m funny acting sometimes (I’m real with myself) so when I first saw her my gut reaction was to keep walking as if I didn’t see her. Instead I walked over and said hi. She looked good and she explained to me that she had taken a leap and started her own non-profit. After she finished explaining what her mission was I told her if there was any way that I could assist that I would.
She asked me to be a professor and I accepted. She continued telling me about the major contacts that she’d been making, as she was speaking I thought about the lawyer that I used to work for and thought he would be a great contact for her. In the next 30 seconds she mentioned his name and told me how she met him and how difficult it is to catch him. My jaw dropped…I laughed and then told her that I used to work for him and her eyes got real big. She said she met him at an event and he told her to reach out to his assistant, Kelly. She had no idea that it was me. It’s a small world.

This project is still in its infancy, but based on the strides she’s already made I only see success in her future.

Bird said so

Yesterday, Bird and I walked into a store and was greeted by an energetic sales employee with feminine tendencies..real sing song like “Welcome to XYZ” we smiled and walked when he said to a woman behind us ” Welcome to XYZ, you look great!” Bird leans into me and says “I bet he doesn’t even feel like saying that…he just says it cuz he works here” . She’s figured it all out…she tickles me so.

These things are a heel’s best friend. They have changed my life for the better and I don’t plan on ever giving them up. These are the TRUTH! If I were you, I’d pick up a pair on the way home. You can thank me later.

It’s my blogiversary! Whodathunkit? Blogging has been great, and at times amazingly therapeutic. I don’t think when I started that I thought I’d still be doing it in a year. It’s been a great ride. Many of you have been really supportive by lending an ear or giving advice. God willing, there will be many great things to share in the future. XOXOXOXO to you all…cuz I’m feeling real sappy like that today!

Crazy Talk

There have been several convos that have made my eyes pop over the past couple of weeks. Unfortunately, Bird has been a primary in a few of them.
Scene 1: Hotel Room
I needed two small carry-on suitcases. I borrowed a small suitcase from my girlfriend. I’m in the hotel getting ready for the wedding. I go into the suitcase for something and notice something stuck in a crevice. I pull it out and it says ‘St.imu.lant Rx” *eyes stretched*…I’m thinking I know wayyyy too much about D and I laugh. I head back to the bathroom and Bird yells out “Mommy…you better not be taking these St.imu.lant Rx“! OMG! I leaped into the hall yelling “It’s NOT MINE…IT’S MS.D’S…thats HER suitcase!” ROFL!!! She was glaring at me with accusatory eyes! I ratted D out…lol…I’m not a good liar.
Scene 2: At the church while the Bride is getting ready.
As weddings go someway…somehow…the veil was misplaced. Someone left to go to a bridal shop, but it was closed. The bride finally gets dressed and someone says “You look beautiful…just gorgeous..you don’t even need the veil“ She looks down…smoothes her dress down and says “you think so?” We all nod and co-sign in agreement. Bird says real nonchalant like…”I think she needs it“ *DEAD* It was time to go…I snatched her lil tail out and headed to the sanctuary.
Scene 3: Va. Beach eating outside on the patio.
The weekend that I went to Virginia I hooked up with some old family friends. They really are old. Doll is in her early 70′s I’ll say. This was my first time meeting this particular daughter who was in her 50′s. We ate lunch outside and then had ice cream for dessert. Doll’s Daughter, V chose butter pecan. We sorta eating in silence, enjoying ourselves when Doll looks up and says to her daughter…”where are your teeth?” V is sitting with her lips all sucked in and I see the pecans lined around on a napkin *eyes stretched*. V doesn’t answer…her eyes speak volumes. “You are never gonna get used to your teeth if you don’t keep them in when you eat” *DEAD* Am I supposed to be privy to this exchange??? V: “I know Ma…I know“ All the while her head down and gumming that ice cream.

Relocating

I saw this as I was walking to my gate Monday morning, and thought of you S23! One day…
I’m planning on relocating in two years when I go to law school. At this point I have more of an interest in Raleigh/Durham, but who knows. North Carolina is my top 3 choices of places to relocate to.
I know several of you have relocated at some point. What steps did you take? How did you decide where you would move?
Tampa

I spent my weekend in Tampa and a grrrrrreat time. It sucked coming back…literally, but I won’t focus on that. I met my god-brother’s wife and quickly came to ADORE her!! Phew! Her lil girls are beautiful and I could just eat them up. I’m really happy he has a good woman.
We stayed at the In.tercon.tinental hotel. It was nice…business oriented..which I knew, close to the airport, but far from where everyone else was staying. We were up at 4:30 am and arrived in Tampa at 10 am-ish. My god-brother Rok and his fiancee picked us up. I didn’t rent a car so I was at the mercy of someone picking me up and dropping me off. I thought she was lovely. We went straight to church. After service we headed back to their house where lunch was being prepared for friends and family. There were about 30-35 people there. I was able to connect with friends that also came in from out of town that I haven’t seen in a long time (although we’re all in NY…shame).
We ate, we laughed…the kids ran around..and I observed. I watched her…her family…how they interacted together. I kept thinking I REALLLLLY like this girl. After some folx started leaving she had an opportunity to sit down and put her feet up…and she just smiled. Then she said..”I love this“. Her friend questioned…and she replied “family is here…we’re laughing…I love family…I wish it could always be like this“. I related to her. I actually think we’re similar in a few ways.
By 6:00 I was ret to go. I was so tired and just wanted to lay down. They were planning to go to the church and finish decorating. Rok took me to the hotel, then said he’d come back for me so that we could all go to the church. I said ok, but I wondered how he could pull that off since my hotel really was out of the way.
Once I got in the room I was ready to collapse! I told Bird that I was going to take a nap…she suggested that I read a book instead..lol. That was at 6:45pm. I woke up at 12:36am to the shrill of my cell phone, completely disoriented. Needless to say Rok didn’t come back for me. He called to apologize which was unnecessary. Then he said the unthinkable. The wedding was later at 3:00 pm. He arranged to have someone pick me up, but she had to come get me at 9:00am. I was near tears. There was no way I could get up at 7:30 and wear a dress and those shoes for hours before the wedding. I didn’t want to wear reg clothes and then have to lug my other clothes around. Nope. There had to be another way. He said it would cost me a grip to take a cab. Oh well….a grip may have to be paid cuz there’s just no way. I needed some down time.
The next morning we took our time getting up…we ate breakfast and then hit the roof-top pool.

I met a woman who was there with her daughter from Houston. This is Bird’s candid shot of me.

We couldn’t stay for long but it was nice to get it in. The wedding was wonderful…there were definitely a few hiccups, but thats weddings for ya.

Reception…more laughing and dancing

Their marriage is in my prayers. A wedding is nice, but the lifetime commitment is what really matters. I’m happy for them.
This is my weekend turn-out!
What ya’ll get into?

This could easily be a mug shot photo.
