Random on this journey

I became cool with a professor and shared some of my goals towards the end of my fall semester.  He offered to write a recommendation letter for me.  It was wonderful.  When I shared the news that I had been accepted into school he was amazingly supportive.  SOOO supportive that he offered to cover my moving expenses.  Shall I repeat?  He PAID for my move to Deer/Moose/Bear Country.  He made this offer without knowing the cost….I didn’t even know the cost…at that time I had not found a place to call home.  God moves.

Emotionally, I’m having highs and lows.  Although I’m full of praise, I’m having a valley moment.  The girls are doing well.  T has been having a mild case of cabin fever living with R, to the point where she asked when she could come to Deer/Moose/Bear country.  I’ll be sure to remind her of the moment when she asked if she could come.  I’m sure we’ll experience moments when she wants to return to NYC.

Bird is having a good time with her little brother.  We love the moments when we can skype with each other.  I’m going to buy a cam for them to use at R’s house.

Last week I learned how to brief a case and analyze a fact pattern…JOY JOY JOY!

Most people here are very friendly.  I went hiking yesterday.  I figured  if it’s ever safe to go, it’s safe to do it with the Dean.  About 2 minutes in it was very apparent I wasn’t cut out for it.  Funny how much enthusiasm I had to begin with.

Earlier in the week I received my financial aid info.  It’s not pretty.  In fact, it’s real tight.  The fact that it’s a budget for 9 months, and my expenses don’t disappear after 9 months was even scarier.  BUT I just told you how I got moved up here right? I’d kinda be playing myself at this point if I started worrying about Junes’ troubles.

I have a guy who always shouts me out if I’m within 6 ft of him.  At first he was funny.  Yesterday, after the hike there was a nice bbq on campus.  Some upperclass men formed a band, and they were performing.  He says “hey Kelly..this is NO block party, right” I chuckle, shrug, watev, and then he starts to “raise the roof” and says “you know what I mean?” He received a side eye and a “No…I don’t know what you mean.”

I PRAY for us both that he doesn’t make me formally introduce myself.  I don’t know if he’s trying to be vicious or if he’s just being ignorant, and thinks that’s the way I relate as an African American.  Prior to this he’s only made comments about “us city folk,” he’s from upstate NY so I find humor in his sarcasm, but it seems like he’s working his way into dangerous territory.  I was talking to a guy here, and being such a minority, I can see how some people may step out of line.  For example, he said that a few guys walked by him one day and threw up gang signs.

What do ya’ll think? WWYD?

I’m going home next weekend.  Bird’s bday is on the 1st.  I can’t wait to hug my girls.

Earlier this week I received an encouraging card with a gift card inside.  It was so needed. I felt renewed, and I was sooooo thankful.

Now that I’ve released a bit, my mood is on the come up ;)

I feel the age difference here.  If you ever hear/read me say/write “totally” or “super,” SHOOT me…seriously.
