Is it me?

So on Christmas day we know that a terrorist tried to ignite explosives  onboard a Northwest flight.   We have since learned that his father alerted authorities about his son’s activities and suspicious behavior.  With this…they did not find that there was enough cause to do anything 0ther than put his name on a watch list. 

When I flew from Tampa this summer they threw away my water…my baby oil gel, and my toothpaste.  How in the sam hill did a man that is on a WATCH list make it aboard an aircraft with explosives????

This is my issue – as a result there are a whole new slew of guidelines for passengers.  Nothing on the laps of passengers for the last hour of flight.  No blankets, pillows, purse…nothing.  No leaving your seat for the last hour.  This includes going to the restroom…you betta hold it.  No access to your carry-on.  No movies for the last hour.  The pilot will no longer announce landmarks as you’re passing over.  

Now if this is what needs to be done to ensure everyone’s security..fine.  But, what does alllll of this have to do with the authorities not pursuing a suspect that was put right in front of their noses??? It really pisses me off when I turn on the news and listen to all of these new guidelines. Yes I find them to be irksome inconveniences.   The american public didn’t do anything to warrant any of these new confines.  THEY DROPPED THE BALL and now we have to bend.  We screw up..aha..give them more rules.  How about they just do their jobs thoroughly?? I think that’s the solution. 

Or is this just me?  Someone needs a new one ripped.

9/11 Rememberance

I was home sleeping nursing my daughter when my phone rang.  It was my mom.  She said that a plane hit the Twin Towers.  I was annoyed because I had been up one time too many with my newborn.  Then she said “Well doesn’t Maggie work there?”  It took a moment for me to realize she was talking about the World Trade Center.  I’d never referred to it as the Twin Towers before.

I turned on the Fox 5 news, and viewers were calling in giving their accounts…what they see….what they heard.  There was a viewer calling from New Jersey who said she could see alot of smoke from her balcony.  Then the second plane hit.  That’s when they knew. 

I began to call Maggie’s job.  I remembered a few months back, my ex-husband and his brother went to pick something up from her job and they talked about how high up Mommy works.  Maggie started work at 8 am.  It wasn’t 9 am yet and the phone lines were going to straight to voicemail.  I began to pray.  I called my ex-husband.  I wanted to know what floor she worked on.  The phone had a constant busy signal.  Using our nextel I beeped thru and he answered.  Distressed and shaken, he said he couldn’t remember which floor she worked on.

We heard from Maggie hours later, hours after both buildings she once worked in collapsed.  I’ll never forget the image of the firefighers walking towards the buildings to assist their brothers.  After the towers fell this firefighter threw off his gear and in agony began to beat it against the concrete street.

Maggie and others walked from the 100+ floor to a lower floor.  She saw her friend Soledi standing in the elevator bank.  Soledi comforted Maggie and told her to calm down. “Maggie, its ok, calm down, get on this elevator”  Soledi, what about you, what are you gonna do?  “It’s ok, I’ll take the next one, I’m waiting for [.......]“.  Maggie got on the elevator, and shortly after reaching the lobby, the second plane hit.  My mother-in-law made it….Soledi did not.  At age 39, she left behind 2 young daughters and a husband.

I didn’t know Soledi, but because she and Maggie were such good friends she was invited to our wedding 5 years before.  This is a tribute to Soledi and the many others whose lives were cut too short.

DNC

OMG! This has been such a monumental week watching the DNC.  Even my 6 yr old, Bird has been staying up watching with me.  Barack came out strong last night.  I’m so glad.  As the camera scanned the audience I saw history.  I’m truly overwhelmed….but I gotta tell you I’m glad its over…I’M EXHAUSTED!!  I’m a 10pm bedtime gal, and staying up has been kickin’ my behind! 

I was on the phone last night with my girl J, and we were sharing our Obama love, and then she said…”but I don’t know about Biden”, I confessed I didn’t know much about him either, but I trust Obama and if he chose him I’m rollin’ wit him.

….is my shero!  OMG! her speech moved me to tears…literally! When she spoke of her Dad and how through his pain he wouldn’t complain….he’d just get up earlier and work harder…whew! pass me the kleenex puhleese.  It was so genuine and so pure.  I’m not a political analyst….yet…so I’ll just leave it at that.
